£50,000 BMW car plunges into canal after M6 police chase

These dramatic pictures show police removing a brand new £50,000 BMW car which had plunged off a bridge and into a canal after a high speed chase.

The driver smashed his white BMW through a bridge before nose diving into the canal on Thursday (August 6).

Pictures released by the police show the wreckage lodged in the water and being winched out.

The BMW E92 M3 had been involved in a police chase on the busy M6 near Preston, reports LancsLive.

During the speedy pursuit the vehicle crashed into a bridge before vaulting into the Lancaster Canal near Forton, Lancs.

Despite the front of the car being submerged in water, the two occupants of the vehicle – believed to be two men – managed to flee from the police on foot.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “This vehicle was involved in a pursuit on the M6 motorway yesterday.

“The two occupants managed to destroy a bridge before crashing into the canal at Forton.

“Two males are outstanding.”

Officers are now appealing for information and dash cam footage which may help with their investigation.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Lancashire Police, quoting log number 1265 of August 6.
