A troubled dog was found tied to a park bench with a heartbreaking note from a child left under a stone explaining that the pet had been given up to save it from abusive owners.
A video shows the moment when members of an animal welfare association arrive to rescue the dog, referred to in the note as Max, and slowly gain his confidence to release him.
He was taken to safety where he began to relax, with volunteers saying the nervous pet responded well and people letting him touch him after he was initially very wary.
It appears that the dog was reluctantly left in the park in Mexico City’s Mexican capital this week, with the note, “Please, I ask you to adopt this dog and take good care of him.
“Leaving my dog here hurts a lot, but I made the decision because my family members abused him and it was painful to see him in that situation.
So if you’re reading this and you feel moved, adopt him and take care of him. If not, leave the letter here so someone else can read it and adopt it. Thanks.’
The sad situation was brought to the attention of the animal association Mascotas Coyoacan, who responded quickly to prevent Max from being chained to the bank.
Volunteers said that Max is still a puppy and they are now looking for someone to give him a permanent new home.
They believe the note was written by a child because of a number of errors crossed out and the handwriting that acted bravely to save the dog from further harm.
The association revealed that they will also change the dog’s name from Max in Boston to give him a fresh start and forget about his traumatic start to life.
