Another 26 Covid-linked deaths reported in Midland hospitals as UK cases rise by 82

A further 26 deaths linked to a positive coronavirus test have been reported in Midland hospitals within the past 24 hours.

The grim statistics included five deaths in Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust and two in Wolverhampton.

In total, 76 fatalities were recorded in hospitals in England. Another five deaths were recorded in hospitals in Wales.

One death was recorded in Scotland along with 1,303 new cases and 86 patients currently in intensive care battling the virus.

The daily UK hospital total was 82.

The latest figure brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 31,819.

Patients were aged between 43 and 100 years old. All except three had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from 28 August to 24 October 2020, with the majority being on or after 21 October.

Their families have been informed.
