Be paid £35k to live rent-free and look after cottages in Scottish borders

The owner of a string of luxurious cottages in the Scottish Borders is looking to pay one couple £35,000 to live and work in the spectacular countryside.

According to a listing on jobs website Greycoat Lumley, the owner of eight properties in Dryburgh, near Melrose, wants to recruit a couple to help maintain the homes, reports MirrorOnline.

Salary is £35,000 a year, but as part of the deal, the successful applicants will live rent-free in a cosy two-bedroom property in the idyllic countryside with council tax and utility bills also covered.

The eight cottages are located by the River Tweed. They boast cosy interiors still offering heaps of space, sprawling gardens and a generally picturesque setting.

The job description includes responsibilities such as general maintenance of the properties and grounds, managing cleaners, shopping for supplies, arranging flowers, laundry and ironing, and other errands that may need doing.

According to the listing, the hired couple will be reporting directly to the properties’ owner, and must be “proactive, hardworking and organised”.

Applicants who own a pet need not be deterred because the listing states that pets are welcome ‘within reason’.

Applications can be made through the Greycoat Lumley website.

If you’re now considering a trip to the Scottish Borders, the cottages are open for bookings.
