Ben Shephard brought a moving message to Kate Garraway, co-star on Friday’s Good Morning Britain show.
The GMB host said “it was lovely to see that smile” after Kate, 53, shared a video of her and her daughter attending the Clap For Carers party.
Kate’s husband Derek Draper remains in intensive care after contracting the coronavirus.
Every Thursday, Kate notifies her Instagram followers of Derek’s struggle, saying in last night’s post “There is still hope” despite learning new ways to fight the virus against her husband every day.
After watching the fun video and playing it on Good Morning Britain, Ben said of his colleague and co-star, “It’s great to see that smile.”
In addition to the post, Kate shared images of herself and children clapping and cheering outside their homes.
She wrote, “I didn’t even know Darcey bought this t-shirt online (with my card!) Until she came out tonight, but I know how thankful she is to the #nhs – I couldn’t be prouder of how she & Billy have been through the past 2 horrifying months for our family – always finding ways to cheer us up and stay strong even when they can see me wobble.
“It is so wonderful to see little green shoots of hope that this terrible disease is disappearing and hopefully we can all see each other again soon and embrace our neighbors.
“But the journey doesn’t seem to be over for me and my family, as my heart sinks every day as I learn new and devastating ways in which this virus must fight more for Derek.
“But he is still HERE and so there is still hope. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who will be affected, not just for the next few weeks, but for the near future.”
She added, “That will be the case for many who have suffered from the disease, as well as first-line workers who have helped treat the most severely affected people.
“The physical and mental scars will go deep, so we have to stay together until well after the closing. Thank you so much for all your posts. I am going to share more things that have kept me on the club garage.” com.
“And I would also like to hear more of your challenges and thoughts. Sharing is such a comfort. #Hope #staypositive #clapthecarers”
