born One of the most interesting results of our recent elections was that Americans rejected socialism – or at least its close American equivalent – despite its apparently increasing popularity. Successfully branding their opponents as socialists propelled many Republican candidates to victories in downward races, especially in areas of immigrants that had fled overt socialist regimes. Socialist-type policies have also been defeated in ballot votes, even in progressive states like California.
