Boy shot dead while allegedly trying to flee sex offender abductor

A boy lost his life after being shot while trying to escape a registered sex offender who allegedly tried to abduct him this past Saturday.

According to ABC 27, residents in a Harrisburg, Pa., neighbourhood witnessed a naked and scared Kyan King, 16, running as he was being chased by a man identified as Orlando Duarte, who was brandishing a gun early Saturday afternoon.

Penn Live reported King hit a dead end at a white fence between two houses when Duarte allegedly shot him. Neighbour Tracy Burton told the news outlet the teen was “pleading for his life.”

Burton said she called 911 after King ran by her home. She and other residents of the neighbourhood ran outside to help the teen after hearing his pleas for help.

According to the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, the 46-year-old Duarte allegedly shot at the teen multiple times. When cops arrived on scene, residents pointed to where the armed Duarte had fled on foot.

The suspect was later caught and taken into custody. Duarte was charged with criminal homicide and possession of a prohibited firearm.
