Bride-to-be hacked to death with axe 'by her fiance' days before their wedding

An expectant bride was hacked to death with an ax days before her wedding, and murder detectives have launched a manhunt on her missing fiancé.

Victim Marina Pankratova’s 26-year-old body was found in her bed in her Moscow home, and she had suffered horrific wounds to her head and face. She recently told police that her future husband, Alexander Voronin, had been violent against her.

The 28-year-old groom, the cousin of an FSB intelligence service lieutenant colonel, has fled and is wanted for murder, law enforcement sources said.

Ms. Pankratova recently bought a wedding dress when she excitedly made final preparations for the couple’s wedding, which was due to take place in August for family and friends, just four months after they started dating.

Her future mother-in-law discovered the body on the gory scene in the Russian capital.

Mrs. Pankratova was also bruised.

A gun was discovered on the spot.

The evening before Ms. Pankratova’s body was found, CCTV cameras showed Voronin punched her in the face during an argument, it is said.

Voronin was seen with a backpack from his flat on Sunday and a murder hunt was launched.

He was “quiet and reserved,” said a neighbor who saw him.

The bride’s face was disfigured and her skull was broken by wounds from a small ax.

Relatives say the couple had been in a relationship long after meeting at a hardware store where they both worked.

Friends said they had a “very tender” relationship.

“They were a nice couple. very calm and quiet, “said a neighbor.

A neighbor said, “I am shocked.

“They were a nice and intelligent couple.”

However, it was revealed that Ms. Pankratova had recently complained to the police about domestic violence, but later withdrew the claim and agreed to marry Voronin.

Local media alleged that Ms. Pankratova had previously gone to hospital with bruises after being attacked by her partner.

One of those incidents happened in May and Ms. Pankratova had a note from the hospital confirming her visit: Life reported.

On her Twitter profile, she wrote that she was beaten by her partner, but when the pair reconciled, she removed the tweets.

Friends told local media that the couple started dating in April, and in May they decided to arrange an August wedding.

Police confirmed that Voronin – who had two young children from previous relationships – is the prime suspect and an investigation is underway.
