Broncos could have as many as 18 practices before cutting down roster

The Broncos announced a schedule of 14 practices during a training camp shortened by the coronavirus.

The practice dates are Friday, Aug. 21, 23-25, 27-29 and 31. The schedule for Sept. 1-4 is to be determined. The Broncos could have as many as 18 practices before cutting the roster from 80 players to 53 on Sept. 5.

All practices are closed to the public this year.

This Friday and Sunday, the Broncos will hold full-speed non-padded practices lasting two hours. That will also be the first time the entire team will be on the field together, replacing the setup of having rookies, quarterbacks and rehabbing players at one time and the remaining veterans at another time.

Beginning next Monday, fully-padded practices are permitted to begin. The first session will last 90 minutes and can be increased by 15 minutes per day until reaching 2 1/2 hours in length Aug. 21.

The Broncos are expected to have at least one practice at Empower Field at Mile High.

The Broncos open the season Sept. 14 against Tennessee.
