Center Parcs changes earliest date its villages could reopen

Center Parcs has announced that it will be delaying its reopening for another week.

The company had hoped to welcome back guests to its five holiday parks across the United Kingdom and Ireland from July 5.

That would have been a day after the earliest date the Government has given for some leisure sites to reopen – which could include restaurants and accommodation.

But Centre Parcs has now said they will be extending the closure of the villages until at least July 12.

The Longford Forest site in Ireland is scheduled to remain closed until at least July 19.

The holiday park stressed that July 13 is not a confirmed opening date and added that they will only reopen “when the time is right and in the right way”.

A spokesperson said: “We have taken the decision to extend the closure period of our UK villages until July 12, and Longford Forest until July 19, 2020.

“Whilst we do not have a confirmed date for re-opening yet, we’re busy working on our reopening plans and we are getting nearer to welcoming our guests back to the forest.

“We have taken a best practice approach to our plans at this stage and are now very close to finalising things.

“We have made some assumptions on forthcoming government guidelines and we know that we may need to make additional changes to our plans once this information is confirmed.

“The safety of our guests and staff continues to be our priority throughout our planning and we will only open when the time is right and in the right way.

“We have extended our closure period to allow ourselves a little bit more time to prepare, to make sure everything is in place before we open.

“In the current climate we know that things can change very quickly, so please note that July 13 is not a confirmed opening date – as soon as we do have a reopening date we will let you know.”

In a statement the company said: “We recognise the importance of treading cautiously away from lockdown in order to control the pandemic and we know that the closure period may well extend further.

“We are taking small extension steps to ensure we can manage service to our guests and respond quickly to any changes in government advice.“
