China lands probe on Moon to bring back lunar rocks to Earth

A Chinese robotic probe launched to return moon rocks to Earth landed on the moon, the country’s government announced.

The Chang’e 5 probe “has successfully landed on the moon in the pre-selected landing area,” the official China News Service said, citing space officials.

The one-sentence report gave no more details.

The probe complements a series of increasingly ambitious missions of a Chinese space program that ultimately aims to land a human on the moon.
