Christmas number one 2020 contenders listed by Official Charts Company

Liam Gallagher, Jess Glynne, Matt Lucas and Robbie Williams are reportedly among the contenders for this year’s Christmas number one.

The Official Charts Company has put the acts on the list of challengers for the festive top position of 2020.

Former Oasis star Gallagher is on the list of All You’re Dreaming Of, while Glynne’s cover of Donny Hathaway’s This Christmas is also suggested as a potential chart topper.

Comedian Lucas has put a festive spin on his hit charity song Thank You Baked Potato, released earlier this year to raise money to feed NHS workers, by including Merry Christmas, Baked Potato.

Williams’ Can’t Stop Christmas is also likely to have a chance, along with Sam Fender’s Winter Song.

Becky Hill’s Forever Young, Nathan Dawe and Little Mix’s No Time For Tears, and It’s Christmas Time, It’s Time To Lash by Rigaid are also named among the contenders.

Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Charts Company, said: “After such an extraordinary year, Christmas will certainly feel more special than ever – and of course, Christmas race number one will be another highlight.

“This year’s race will also feel extra special as the festive chart topper is announced on Christmas Day, so we are excited to fire the starting pistol and reveal some of the top contenders.

“This year, contenders will try to win the Christmas number one title from LadBaby, which has won the title for the past two years – and there are plenty of big names.

But as history has always told us, only a fool would make a prediction so far.

“The public will decide.”

Christmas classics sales and streams are up 51% from last year, the Official Charts Company added.

Christmas number one will be announced on Christmas Day.
