The Colorado High School Activities Association is making one last effort to allow fans to attend state championship football games this week.
Championship finalists from all classes from 6 man to 5A will gather this week at the ThunderBowl at CSU-Pueblo. CHSAA and the local health authorities had initially authorized fan attendance for up to 1,400 people per game, enforcing strict health and social distance measures. But the widespread broadcast of COVID-19 last week in Pueblo County led the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to ban fans from the event.
At the end of Monday, CHSAA announced that it has asked the governor’s office to reconsider a second derogation to allow football fans during the championship weekend. The new proposal calls for two guests per player and one guest per registered coach, assistant CHSAA commissioner Bert Borgmann told The Denver Post.
CHSAA will host a video news conference with championship game coaches on Tuesday afternoon when more information is expected to be available on the status of their attendance request.
