Co-operative Bank to close 18 branches and lose 350 jobs

The Co-operative Bank has said it plans to cut around 350 jobs as it closes 18 branches and reduces middle management and head office roles.

It is the latest blow for the High Street which has already seen 91,000 jobs lost since the start of the pandemic.

Branches of everything from Debenhams to Pizz Express are closing partially as a result of the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown.

More redundancies are expected across the UK as the wind down of furlough continues in September – meaning employers face having to pay for some of the staff they have kept on the books since the end of Mach.
