Coronavirus announcement to be made from Downing Street on Thursday

A new statement on coronavirus, lockdown, financial support, testing and the vaccine is to be made from Downing Street on Thursday afternoon.

The last address was held on Monday when Boris Johnson spoke to the nation days after the start of the second lockdown in England.

This afternoon, business secretary Alok Sharma will lead the briefing, joined by a senior medical and scientific advisor.

The briefings were held daily through the first lockdown, and are now being held twice a week – updating the public on the latest Covid figures and breaking news.

The briefing is to be held from 5pm.
