Today, ten years ago, computer programmer Laszlo Hanyecz made history when he bought two pizzas with Bitcoin (BTC).
Hanyecz initiated which is now widely regarded as the first real cryptocurrency transaction after creating a post on the Bitcointalk forum asking if anyone would trade Bitcoin for food.
“What I aim for is to have food delivered in exchange for bitcoins where I don’t have to order or prepare it myself, like ordering a ‘breakfast plate’ in a hotel or something, they just bring you something to eat and you’re happy ! “
Jeremy “Jercos” Sturdivant, who was 18 at the time, sent him two pizzas for 10,000 BTC after negotiating the food deal on Internet Relay Chat (IRC). On May 22, Hanyecz confirmed the successful transaction.
Bitcoin value was only about $ 0.0041 at the time, meaning the pizza cost $ 41.
Today, Bitcoin equals $ 9,185, meaning that the 10,000 BTC that Hanyecz spent on two pizzas ten years ago is now worth over $ 90,000,000.
In a 60-minute interview, Hanyecz said he enjoys a crypto holiday in his honor.
“I really thought it would be really cool if I could say that I just traded in this open source internet money for a real good, and I thought, what could be better than food? Food is a basic necessity and every nerd understands pizza. ”
