Dachshund attacks mountain lion trying to kill older dog in astonishing CCTV

A brave Dachshund managed to save his canine friend from certain death when he attacked a mountain lion who jumped over the garden gate.

In CCTV, recorded in Evergreen, Colorado, USA, two small dogs run around the driveway, sniff the ground, and bark as if feeling trouble.

They then run yelping to the gate, when a giant cougar launches itself over the wall and shoots at Mijo, an elderly Chiauhauau cross, picking him up with its jaws.

At this point Dachshund Winston rushes to the cougar and is so terrifying that the big cat drops the dog and jumps back over the fence to escape.

The dog’s owner also runs over, yelling at the big cat and picks up her poor injured dog.

Unfortunately, Mijo suffered a seizure and lost an eye in the attack on Saturday, Nov. 7, and is now receiving veterinary care after being immediately rushed for emergency treatment, 9News reports.

Lindsay Golden, the owner of Winston, told 9News that he was a “20lb dog with the courage of a 200lb dog”.

The woman and the dachshund chase the cougar away

The images went viral on Reddit, receiving over 42,000 votes as people applauded the little dog for his bravery that night.

“Dachshunds are made to hunt badgers, they are not afraid of anything,” wrote one viewer.

“And that was a bloody big cougar,” someone else wondered.

A third wrote: “Fortunately, cougars are scared cats.

“If you make yourself big enough and make enough noise, they’re generally going to be f *** right away unless they’re starving or protecting cubs.”

Some viewers said they thought the woman’s attempt to save her dog was very risky.

One of them commented, “I don’t really respect that she was willing to go with a cougar like a dog.

“That is not a good trade-off.”
