Dad creates giant Gameboy for his kids – and it cost less than £40

If your family is obsessed with everything to do with gaming, you will fall in love with this amazing giant Gameboy right away.

Wayne Mulholland, a 38-year-old father of three from Coventry, decided to create the massive Gameboy as a retro backdrop for his TV – and the project cost him just £ 40 worth of material.

Wayne, a diamond cutter and concrete repairer, told the money-saving community “I made a full Gameboy for our TV and Xbox 360. I came up with the idea of browsing ebay and came across the classic Gameboy.

“I thought to myself that I would like to make a full version of the Gameboy.

“I built this with 12mm MDF and an old brush handle, and the stand is made from a few pieces of wood and some of the hinges I had in my shed.

“I built the Gameboy to match the size of the TV and painted the colors of the original Gameboy with paint I already had in my shed.

“I had to buy the purple paint, which are sample pots from B&Q that cost about £ 1.50 each, and the wood to make the frame.

“To make the buttons, I used a small can of paint, drew it around and cut it out.”

Wayne says this kind of creative project is ideal as a family activity during the closing.

“This can be done as a family project during quarantine, as the kids can format it, the parents can cut it out and the kids will enjoy painting it,” he adds.

“The whole project took me about two days and I have to say that when I finished the TV and the Xbox in it, I was very happy with it!

“My son absolutely loved it and I had to put it in the living room for him to watch movies and play on the Xbox.

“It took about £ 40 to make for this build. For people who would like to try a project like this, I would suggest drawing up your ideas and picking up the materials you need from a hardware store.

“Places like B&Q will cut the wood to size for you and you can use templates for the buttons!”
