A father has told police how he took his son to the police station after discovering the 18-year-old had raped a girl.
Jonathan Evans, 47 from Pontypool, South Wales, was horrified after finding out about his son’s Jack’s vile crime through a text message.
After admitting his crime to his father, Jack Evans was taken to the nearest police station where he reported himself to officers.
Evans has now been placed on a Young Offenders Register for ten years and is currently serving a two year sentence at a young offenders institute.
The attack took place in January last year.
Jonathan Evans told our sister site the Mirror: “I would do the same thing again, I would have to because that is my moral standing on it, it is painful but it is right.
“You cannot get on with your life if you live your life under a lie, as much as this hurts it is the right thing to do.”
At the time of the confession, Evans was a 17-year-old college student.
Software engineer Jonathan and wife Sarah, 47, Evans’ stepmum, both read a text on his phone where he apologised to his victim for the 2019 attack.
The Mirror reports that the girl who had been a virgin did not go to police.
After the shocking text discovery, they went to a children’s advice centre, where they were urged to tell police.
Jonathan added: “I did not march him to the station, I believe you have to own what you did.
“So I had to make it his choice…I’m hoping being in prison will give him time to reflect.”
