A man allegedly shot his eldest son after accusing him of raping his daughter-in-law.
The victim’s wife, who married her husband a year ago, was left home alone on November 25 while he and other family members attended a wedding.
Her father-in-law, a 56-year-old man, was also at the house in the city of Moradabad, India, where he allegedly raped the woman.
She told police that she brought up the alleged rape with her husband, who then confronted his father.
He threatened to file a complaint with the police and heated discussion ensued, the Times of India reported.
Her husband’s younger brother joined in and sided with his father.
In a fit of rage, he then allegedly pulled out a revolver and shot the eldest son, who was later pronounced dead.
The victim’s father has since been arrested and charged on charges of rape and murder, police said.
In a statement, Chief Inspector Amit Kumar Anand confirmed: “An FIR [first information request] has been registered against the father and his youngest son under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 34 (acts committed by several persons to promote common intent) and 376 (rape) on the complaint of the victim’s wife.
The younger brother of the deceased goes into hiding with the main suspect.
“The complainant will be sent for medical examination because she claimed to have been sexually assaulted.
“This is a sensitive issue and we are examining all aspects.
“The statements made by the tenant, the victim’s mother and others will be recorded and verified.”
