Devon holidaymaker livid at harsh parking ticket – for being inch over line

These pictures show ‘Britain’s harshest parking ticket’ given to a mum whose tyre was ‘turned’ over the line – by an INCH.

Baffled Rebecca Edge left the body of her car entirely within the designated bay and paid for a ticket to go for a walk with her partner and three year old twins.

But she was shocked when they returned to find a Penalty Charge Notice left on the dashboard.

She then took a series of pictures that showed her front right tyre had just crossed the line – and only because it was not straight on.

And after sharing the images on social media, members of the public described it as “the harshest parking ticket ever.”

Rebecca, 35, a teaching assistant from Teignmouth, Devon, has now appealed the £50 fine issued by Torbay Council and described it as “crazy.”

She said: “It is tricky to park there and the wheel has gone just about an inch over the line. If you get down on the floor then one edge of the tyre is slightly over, but the entire body of the car is within the bay.

“It just seems so ridiculous and very petty.

“It feels incredibly unfair.”

Mother-of-four Rebecca was with her partner Karl Linnell, 38, and twins Teddy and Peggy in Cockington, Devon when she was issued the ticket at around 2.15pm on Sunday. (August 16)

“We went to Cockington for a walk with our twins and parked in the main car park right in the village.

“We managed to squeeze into a corner. When we got back we could not work out why we had got the ticket. We thought it must have been a mistake.

“I opened it up and read through and it is said we had not been within the parked bays. I looked around and could not believe it.”

Rebecca said the ticket was issued just minutes after their arrival. She has launched an appeal but has yet to get any response from the council.

She added: “We were going to go on and have a pub lunch but decided not to and went home. We have now contested it and are waiting for the outcome.

“It’s an expensive ticket and when we shared it on Facebook other people were shocked and said we needed to fight it.

“I would like to find the warden and ask what was going through their mind. Did they genuinely think it was a fair ticket to issue.

“If one of our wheels was entirely over the line then I could understand it, but this was only about an inch. It is really, really petty.”

Torbay Council has been contacted for comment.
