A twisted dog owner allegedly doused her pit bull with fuel and then set him on fire to punish him for fighting with another dog.
Petra Gabriel, 56, attacked Doody after her got into a scuffle with another dog called Titan, according to police in Florida, the US.
Her sister, who has not been named, separated the animals, and Gabriel is said to have covered the pet in lighter fluid.
She is then said to have set the animal on fire to punish him, and he now risks losing his eyes and going blind.
Doody’s injuries are so severe he could also lose an ear, and the pooch has been sent to a veterinary clinic for further assessment.
Gabriel – who portrays herself as a Christian animal lover online – faces being held in custody in lieu of $500,000 (£390,000) bond.
The Sheriff’s Office was tipped off about the attack on Doody on Friday and Gabriel has now been arrested and charged with arson and animal cruelty.
In a statement, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said: “We all love our fur babies and wish Doody well in his recovery.”
According to the Sacramento County Main Jail booking logs, she also had warrants out for her arrest on suspicion of DUI and possession of narcotics charges.
Doody, who has been renamed Phoenix, is now under the care of the TEAM organisation.
Earlier this month, a Yorkshire Terrier owner revealed her heartbreak after the pooch was killed by a German Shepherd.
It pounced on Helena McEnery’s rescue dog in an unprovoked attack – and then its owner “kicked his dog viciously hard and just walked away.”
Helena rushed her dog Luna to an emergency vet but despite being given treatment she never recovered.
Helena told Dublin Live that her partner Neven was walking the little terrier when the incident occurred.
“It was too late by the time he saw the dog,” she said.
“The dog was less than a foot away and it was all too late.”
