Tributes have been paid to a dog walker who died in a bizarre accident when he was hit by a flying BAND.
Peter Smith, 79, was hit by the loose wheel while walking his dog on the sidewalk along a busy dual carriageway.
Police say a Mitsubishi L200 was towing a livestock vehicle, losing a wheel that subsequently collided with Mr. Smith.
Emergency services were called on Tuesday at 10:25 am for the incident on the A38 near Newton Abbot, Devon, but Mr Smith was pronounced dead on the spot.
Peter’s dog was also on site and is now safe and good with family.
And his family has now paid tribute to him. In a statement they said: “Peter was a caring and devoted father, grandfather, friend and dog lover.
“He will leave a void in everyone’s life who had the pleasure of knowing him.
“Matthew, Samantha and family would like to thank everyone for their continued support in this unexpected time, especially the Devon and Cornwall Police Department for everything they have done and continue to do.”
The A38 was closed for several hours while the emergency services were on site.
The police have tracked down the vehicle involved and are investigating the driver further.
All witnesses have been asked to contact the police at 101.
