A driver was stopped by the police with £ 75k in his backseat – but he told officers he “had never seen it before.”
Officers pulled a silver Chevrolet on the M1 in South Yorks. After it ‘caught their attention’ and discovered that it had put about £ 75k of cash in a carrying case.
But to the surprise of the police, the driver claimed that he knew nothing about the pile of money and went so far as not to know who his passenger was.
Operational Support United of the South Yorkshire Police yesterday evening (May 27) shared the bold claim on social media in a summary of their daily work.
They said: “After a nice cup of coffee, the team went to the M1 where a beautiful Chevrolet caught our eye.
“The team stopped it and to the surprise of the occupant we found about £ 75 thousand in cash in the backseat.
“At this point, the occupants’ conversation went along the lines of ‘Oh, I’ve never seen that before’.
“The conversation only got worse because the driver didn’t know his passenger back then, even though they were in the same car together.
Anyway, we confiscated the money and our checks showed that the driver was not insured for the car, so he collected 6pt and a fine. “
