A man arrested by police with £ 75,000 in the backseat of his car told police officers that he had “never seen it before.”
Police put a silver Chevrolet on the M1 in South Yorks after it “caught their attention.”
They found that about £ 75,000 in cash had been put in a back bag.
Officers were more surprised when the driver said he knew nothing about the supply of money – or who his passenger was.
South Yorkshire Police Operational Support United shared the claim late on social media late Wednesday evening, in an overview of their day-to-day work.
They said: “After a nice cup of coffee, the team went to the M1 where a beautiful Chevrolet caught our eye.
“The team stopped it and to the surprise of the occupant we found about £ 75 thousand in cash in the backseat.
“At this point, the occupants’ conversation went along the lines of” Oh I’ve never seen that before, frankly. “
“The conversation only got worse because the driver didn’t know his passenger back then, even though they were in the same car together.
Anyway, we confiscated the money and our checks showed that the driver was not insured for the car, so he collected 6pt and a fine. “
