An angry wife allegedly bit her husband’s penis off after he refused to remove a rat from her bedroom in Kitwe, the central Zambian province of Copperbelt.
Mukupa Musonda and her husband Abraham became embroiled in a row after Mukupa, who is separated from her husband and is sleeping in a different room to him, discovered a rat in her room.
She had just returned from a night out drinking when she found the rat, and asked Abraham to remove the rodent, but he refused.
An argument then broke out and as revenge, Mukupa allegedly bit her husband’s penis and tore it off in rage.
It is not clear how Mukupa reached Abraham’s manhood and the extent of his injuries and current condition are not known.
Abraham is still at Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) and is being treated for his bloody injuries.
In a statement, Kitwe Police spokesman, Bothwell Namuswa, said: “Mukupa had gone out drinking and when she came home she asked Mr Musonda if he could remove a rat from her room.
“Musonda apparently refused to kill the rat.”
Rats are a problem in Kitwe, and a video emerged recently of the animals wondering around the hospital where Abraham is being treated.
A video was shared online of the rodents, prompting a response from Kitwe’s Health Minister, Dr Chitalu Chilufya.
Dr Chilufya said: “As old as the hospital is, it is unacceptable for the management to allow rats in the patient wards, especially after receiving support from the government.”
