A ‘drunk’ zoo visitor tried to drown a bear after breaking into his enclosure.
The horrifying moment at the Warsaw Zoo, Poland, was filmed while many families watched in shock.
In the images, the man is already seen inside the fence as the curious bear approaches him.
He jumps into the water to avoid a stocky bear and struggles with it when chasing him.
The bear follows him as he tries to swim away and the animal then jumps into the water behind him.
The man then seems to grab the bear’s head before submerging it in water and then holding it in a neck lock.
According to local media, the 23-year-old was drunk at the time and was taken to the police station by firefighters who arrived on the scene shortly after.
A zoo spokesman said the man was lucky that the female bear has a circus background and is used to people.
Anna Karczewska, spokesman for Zoo, told local media: “The female bear, named Sabina, was surprised by the actions of the man and now sits in the water and roars occasionally nervously.
“She is supervised by the caring zoo staff.”
Ms. Karczewska also said that the man was lucky to be alive, as Sabina was the only bear at the time.
The zoo is reportedly starting legal proceedings against the man for causing emotional stress to the animal.
It is currently unclear whether the man is also being prosecuted by the local authorities.
