England’s first ‘beer hotel’ with rooftop firepit and BBQ for guests seeks planning permission

A ‘beer hotel’ which offers guests not only their favourite tipple in the shower but also a rooftop firepit is seeking planning permission in England.

The concept is the brainchild of successful Scottish beer brand BrewDog, which already runs similar hotels in Scotland and the USA.

Now a planning application has been lodged by the company detailing plans to transform an empty office building in Manchester city centre, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A peek at the plans reveals they are looking at creating a venue with 18 en-suite rooms, a ground floor restaurant and a rooftop bar with a fire pit and barbecue area.

The brand is keen to transform a three-storey building on Fountain Street, just off busy Market Street in Manchester’s commercial centre.

The site, opposite the city’s busy Primark store, was previously home to Enzo pizza restaurant, but has been empty for some time.

The company launched its ‘Kennels’ hotel brand – which this will be a part of – putting bedrooms above craft beer bars.

In November 2019, the first Kennels hotel opened in Aberdeen above BrewDog Castlegate.

Explaining the concept, the website said : “Building on the concept of our award-winning DogHouse hotel, they give more people the chance to combine a memorable hotel experience with amazing craft beers on their travels. This is a revolution in accommodation.”

Guests in Aberdeen were told they would enjoy a welcome 1/2 of craft beer at check-in, room service for beer and food, record players and board games, a French-Press of BrewDog coffee, dog friendly rooms complete with pet beds and shower beers.

The Aberdeen venue joined Kennels in Columbus, Ohio.

According to the planning documents, Manchester Kennels will have 18 en-suite bedrooms spread over two floors.

A new restaurant and bar with seating for around 150 customers will be situated on the ground floor, alongside the check-in desk, while the rooftop will become a terrace and bar area.
