In June 2019, a single ticket holder in the UK won £ 123m in the Euromillions draw on Tuesday night. It was the third largest Euromillions jackpot in the UK since the 2004 draw.
It meant they instantly got as rich as Fifty Shades of Gray author EL James (£ 127 million) and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page (£ 125 million).
But they are not the biggest winner of Euromillions. That title belongs to Colin and Chris Weir, from North Ayrshire in Scotland, who won £ 161 million in 2011, making them the current record holders for the biggest ever lottery win in the UK. They made a £ 1 million donation to the Scottish National Party following their lottery winnings. Unfortunately, Mr. Weir died in December 2019 at the age of 71.
In 2012, Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Suffolk, won over £ 148 million. Both pairs have been separated since they won the Euromillions jackpot.
Although Euromillions is played in nine European countries, four of last year’s biggest jackpots were claimed in the UK.
