A prison officer and bodybuilder who had sex with an inmate was heard in court muttering “what the f ***”.
Melissa Goodwin was outraged to learn that her sentencing would be delayed until 2021.
The 25-year-old prison officer, who moonlit as a bodybuilder, pleads guilty to having sex with criminal Corey London at the Silverwater Jail in Sydney, Australia.
She has settled in court weeks after she was accused of smuggling contraband into prison.
According to court documents, Goodwin reportedly smuggled a packet of loose tobacco from White Ox, two lighters and chewing gum to the inmate she was having sex with.
Charges related to the contraband were handed to Goodwin last month at a hearing she reportedly skipped to train.
Just days after she failed to appear in court, she posted on social media about working out at the gym.
At the time, the chairman said, “That is not appropriate. It must be done in the public courtroom. It must be done in the usual way.”
In exchange for admitting one count of entering into a relationship with London, a charge of wrongdoing in public office was dropped.
But she swore softly after being told she wouldn’t be convicted until 2021.
According to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Goodwin could be heard muttering “what the f ***” after the judge found her conviction for next summer.
She has since been banned from Silverwater prison by the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Center.
Goodwin was arrested in May after evidence of her relationship with the inmate came to light.
According to news.com.au, Goodwin was in an illicit relationship with London for about seven months before she was caught.
But her attorney claimed the facts were being disputed despite her guilty plea.
At the time, she was also being investigated for her relationship with a newly released ex-con named Caleb Valeri.
Goodwin is not being charged in connection with her relationship with Valeri, and none of the charges against Goodwin suggest the relationship was inappropriate.
