A former professional boxer has been arrested after allegedly bludgeoning her husband to death.
Brazilian-born Viviane Obenauf, who has fought three times for world titles, married her 61-year-old husband in January. Today she is accused of beating him to death “with a blunt object” in the apartment in which they shared
Obenauf, 34, was arrested this week and is currently in custody after the victim’s death from a “sustained violent attack”.
The victim, whose name is protected by Swiss law, died of “serious injuries” inflicted with a blunt object, Swiss police said.
Police have been spotted in a gym owned by Obernauf and in the couple’s apartment.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Obenauf as a youngster played football and was an Olympic gymnast before taking up boxing at the age of 18.
She was successful in her boxing career, winning 14 fights against six defeats, before leaving the ring last year.
She started working in the hospitality industry in Switzerland after she retired and later opened her own gym.
Swiss newspaper Blick reports that the super featherweight was previously arrested in a London nightclub after punching a man in the face for trying to touch her buttocks while celebrating her 30th birthday. The incident led to her spending several hours in a prison cell in October 2016.
Candles and flowers are placed in front of the entrance of the victim’s restaurant, the Des Alpes in Interlaken.
A note pinned to the restaurant’s door stating it would reopen on November 24 has since been removed. Managers are not yet able to say when the restaurant will reopen and the staff have been placed on leave.
