Former Hawaii punter Rigoberto Sanchez says ‘surgery went well’ after removal of cancerous tumor

Former University of Hawaii placekicker and punter Rigoberto Sanchez, now at the Indianapolis Colts, posted an optimistic message after surgery today to remove a cancerous tumor.

“The operation went well. Overwhelmed by all the love and support everyone has sent my way, ”Sanchez posted on his Twitter account.

Sanchez, 26, who is in his fourth season with the Colts, gave no other details or gave the location of the tumor.

He played punting five times in Sunday’s loss against Tennessee for an average of 50.4 yards and attempted an outside kick.

Hailing from Hamilton City, California, Sanchez played two seasons, 2015-16, with UH, scoring both years with the Rainbows Warriors. He kicked a 55-meter field goal in Michigan in 2016, 1 meter below the school record.
