Moving tribute came in after a 15-year-old girl tragically died after falling from a fourth-floor balcony in what appeared to be a freak accident.
Italian teenager Julia Marra died on Tuesday around 9 p.m. from the balcony of an apartment building in the Tigne area of Sliema in northern Malta.
Emergency services were called on the spot and provided first aid to the girl, who lived a few miles away in the town of San Gwann in central Malta, but was pronounced dead on the spot.
A local resident, who did not want to be called, told local media “we heard the screams, it was a terrible tragedy.”
Local magistrate Audrey Demicoli has opened an investigation into the incident, and police said initial evidence suggests the incident was an accident, while local media described it as a bizarre event.
The community is deeply affected by the inexplicable tragedy, and loved ones left flowers and candles where Julia fell.
Dozens of tributes for Julia have flooded social media.
One of her relatives wrote, “I’m not coming out of this bad dream, please come back to me. I miss you Julia. ‘
Another grieving wrote, “Thank you for helping me and being there for me. We will always keep you in our hearts and prayers. You will never be forgotten, fly high angel.”
Another friend of Julia said, “Rest in peace Julia – you have not earned this at all. You and your family will be in the prayers of me and my family.
“Fly high and rest in peace angel.”
Another comment read: “Today Heaven has received another angel. May you rest in peace. “
