Girl, 17, blinded by mystery illness sparked from squeezing 'harmless' nose spot

A teenager is blinded by a mysterious illness caused by the squeezing of a seemingly harmless nose spot.

Mary Ann Regacho, 17, suffered from severe facial swelling after simply dropping a pimple on her nose last year.

The youngster originally thought the growth was a simple place triggered by hormones after she gave birth to a baby boy at the age of 16.

But when she squeezed the spot, Mary said it got painful days later before it spread on her face.

The teenager, from Nueva Ecija, Philippines, said it “like a balloon being blown up”.

Now the growth has largely engulfed her face and is starting to lead to blindness as the severe swelling reaches her eyes.

Mary said, “I thought it was just a regular pimple, but it hurt so much that I couldn’t sleep at night.

“Now I feel like my face will never be the same again.”

Her husband, Albert Sales, who works on a neighbor’s farm without a steady income, reportedly couldn’t afford treatment or even medicine to help his wife.

After a year of suffering, Mary went to the hospital to have it checked.

Mary was transferred to a larger hospital, where again the family was unable to pay medical bills.

The concerned husband Albert has now appealed to Good Samaritans for help and appeared in a video in which he said, “I want to ask kind people for donations so we can finally send my wife to a hospital.

“We only earn enough for ourselves and our one-year-old baby, so I can’t pay her medical bills.”
