Four boys aged between 10 and 13 have been accused of raping a four-year-old girl.
It is alleged that they raped the child in an ‘informal settlement’ of Muldersdrift, South Africa, on Friday.
The boys have been taken into a detention centre and are expected to appear in court on rape charges soon.
Spokesperson Mavela Masondo told Eyewitness News: “The boys, together with their guardians, as well as the mother and the victim, were taken to the police station and a rape case was opened for further investigation.”
The victim’s mum found out about the alleged rape as she was braiding a customer’s hair, reports said.
It came as a man aged 24 was arrested for raping a five-year-old girl in Khutsong on Thursday, in a separate incident.
The man allegedly broke into his young victim’s home while her mum had left her with her 11-year-old sibling.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect bent the corrugated iron and snatched the child whom he took to the bush and raped,” Masando said.
“He was found by the police on Sunday after a lengthy search.
