Heathrow making redundancies after saying 25,000 jobs are at risk

Heathrow Airport has launched a voluntary redundancy scheme, warning that it cannot prevent further job cuts as it struggles to recover from the corona virus crisis.

The company said it had negotiated the arrangement with unions, which just days after it warned could endanger about 25,000 jobs.

General Manager John Holland-Kaye said: “During this crisis, we tried to protect frontline jobs, but this is no longer sustainable, and we have now agreed a voluntary severance arrangement with our union partners.

“While we cannot rule out further job cuts, we will continue to explore options to minimize job losses.”
