Terrifying footage has shown a car ploughing into a crowd of Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters in Times Square, New York City, US.
The incident yesterday night (September 3) occurred after a standoff between a BLM march and a pro- Donald Trump rally, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
Police say one officer told a pro-Trump demonstrator to leave in his car once it became heated and take a specific route, but he instead drove through the protest.
Footage taken by a witness shows the driver beeping his horn out of shot before his black vehicle is seen forcing its way through a crowd of people.
Screams erupt as people hurl items at the car. Some try to chase after it but the driver speeds off.
“A black car came through the crowd and hit the person in front of me and then me and then I believe the person behind me, and we all had bikes so they just came charging through,” Brooklyn resident Lora Gettelfinger told CBS2’s Ali Bauman.
“It was pretty terrifying.”
At least one person has said they were injured in the incident and police are hunting the driver.
Hundreds gathered in the tourist hotspot last night following the release of police bodycam footage showing officers in Rochester, New York, arresting Daniel Prude.
His head was covered with a hood and then pinned to the ground until he lost consciousness.
Prude, who is black American, died a week later from asphyxiation.
Shockingly, it is not the first time a car has driven directly into a crowd of people supporting the BLM movement.
In July, a 24-year-old woman died after a car ploughed into a rally in Seattle.
BLM protests have gained momentum ever since the death of George Floyd in May. Disturbing footage of Mr Floyd being pinned to the ground by his neck horrified the world. The officers involved have since been charged.
And last month, Jacob Blake was filmed being shot in the back seven times by an officer.
