How many new cases of Covid-19 there have been in England area by area

Here is the latest update to the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 for every municipal area in England.

Figures, for the seven days to September 10, are based on tests conducted in laboratories (pillar one of the government’s testing program) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent three days (September 11-13) has been excluded as incomplete and likely to be revised.

In Bolton, 552 new cases were recorded in the seven days to September 10 – the equivalent of 192.0 per 100,000 people. This is the highest rate in England, rising from 126.2 in the seven days to September 3.

Blackburn with Darwen has the second highest rate, from 61.5 to 118.2 with 177 new cases.

Hyndburn is in third place, where the rate has increased from 43.2 to 114.8, with 93 new cases.

Two other areas currently have rates greater than 100 cases per 100,000: Oadby and Wigston (114.0, instead of 24.6) and Preston (102.0, instead of 61.5).

Cities that are recording a surge include:

– Sunderland (up from 34.2 to 94.3 with 262 new cases)

Birmingham (up from 53.0 to 88.8, with 1,014 new cases)

– Liverpool (up from 32.9 to 85.1 with 424 new cases)

– Manchester (up from 54.3 to 77.4 with 428 new businesses)

– Leeds (up from 48.4 to 69.8 with 554 new cases)

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency and is based on data from Public Health England published on the government’s coronavirus dashboard on Sept. 13.
