Hunter Biden, son of new President Joe Biden, said on Wednesday that federal investigators are investigating his taxes.
“I learned yesterday for the first time that the United States attorney’s office in Delaware informed my legal counsel, also yesterday, that he was investigating my tax cases,” Hunter said in a media statement. “I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective examination of these matters will demonstrate that I have managed my affairs in a legal and proper manner, including with the benefit of professional tax advisers.”

Details of the “tax cases” under investigation were not immediately available. The Biden-Harris transition team released a concurrent statement supporting the new president’s son.
“President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has battled difficult challenges, including vicious personal attacks of the past few months, to come out stronger,” said the transition team.
In July of this year, the District of Columbia filed a tax lien of $ 453,890 against Hunter Biden, who owed approximately $ 200,000 in state income tax in 2017 and 2018, according to records reviewed by the Free Washington Beacon. However, the lien was released after “the tax issue was resolved,” a spokesperson for DC’s CFO’s office told the Free Beacon.
Additionally, in 2018, the Internal Revenue Service placed a tax lien on Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle for $ 112,805 in unpaid taxes, the Daily caller reported. The privilege was active until March 20 of this year.
It is not clear whether the ongoing investigation against Hunter Biden relates to any of the privileges.
A report by Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security and Finance Committee released in September detailed numerous business transactions between Hunter Biden and foreign officials and entities. The FBI opened an investigation into Hunter Biden for money laundering in 2019, according to a report from the Sinclair Broadcast Group, although that report remains unconfirmed.
