Last dates to post letters and gifts by Royal Mail for guaranteed Christmas delivery

With just over a month until Christmas, Royal Mail is preparing for its busiest time of year.

And as millions of people rush to post cards and gifts around the world, you’ll want to make sure your item has plenty of time to arrive.

We’ve rounded up all the dates you need to know to ensure your parcels are delivered in time for December 25, 2020.

These are the last dates you can post items to guarantee they’ll be under the right tree on Christmas Day.

UK post

2nd Class and 2nd Class Signed For UK mail must be sent by Friday, December 18

1st Class and 1st Class Signed For and Royal Mail Tracked 48* UK mail must be sent by Monday, December 21

Royal Mail Tracked 24* UK mail must be sent by Tuesday, December 22

Special Delivery Guaranteed UK mail must be sent by Wednesday, December 23

International Economy post

The last date to guarantee deliveries to:

– All non-European destinations (except South Africa, Canada, Middle and Far East and the USA) was Monday, October 5

– The Middle and Far East, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Africa was Monday, October 12

– Canada, Cyprus, Eastern Europe, Greece, Iceland, Malta, Turkey and the USA was Monday, November 2

– Western Europe is Monday, November 16

International Standard & International tracking and signature services

The last date to guarantee deliveries to:

– Australia and New Zealand is Friday, December 4

– Canada, Cyprus and Malta is Thursday, December 10

– Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Poland, Sweden and the USA is Saturday, December 12

– Austria, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland is Wednesday, December 16

– Belgium, France, Ireland and Luxembourg is Friday, December 18

How to avoid delays

To avoid delays, Royal Mail advises senders to make sure letters and packages are addressed correctly with clearly labelled envelopes and a return address.

Senders should also check the size and weight of their items before mailing them to ensure they have the correct postage.
