'Let me die' pleads girl hospitalised after 'sustained campaign of sexual abuse'

A seven-year-old girl who suffered a lifelong campaign of sexual abuse at the hands of her family begged doctors to let her die of the catastrophic injuries her parents and uncles inflicted, it has been reported.

The child has been in a serious condition in Hospital de Las Margaritas, in the state of Puebla om east-central Mexico, ever since she was admitted after she was allegedly severely beaten on the August 21.

The young girl is said to have begged doctors “I want to die, don’t heal me anymore”, as she was admitted, telling them “I don’t want to go back to my parents so they can keep hitting me”.

A neighbour took her to the hospital where she was diagnosed with internal bleeding, signs of rape, back burns and a collapsed lung, it has been reported.

Her parents are being investigated for the attacks after it emerged the victim’s three-year-old sister died under suspicious circumstances in June 2020.

The girl has been admitted to hospital several times over the past two years, with a catalogue of injuries suggesting she had been regularly beaten. However the authorities took no action.

In August she was admitted with burns to her buttocks which had destroyed part of the muscle – it was so severe medics had to do a graft.

In February she presented with cuts to her legs. Her father told doctors that she had done it to herself.

Activist Frida Guerrera brought the case to Mayor Claudia Rivera Vivanco to get her on the municipal Development of Family Integrity (DIF) programme that will now take the case and custody of the minor.

The DIF has also reopened the case of the death of the younger sister who was previously believed to have accidentally asphyxiated.

The girl’s parents have since been detained.
