LIVE BLOG: Hawaii vs. San Jose State at Aloha Stadium

  • GEORGE F. LEE / NOV. 28

University of Hawaii football player Chevan Cordeiro dumps a pass to Calvin Turner Jr. against the University of Nevada Wolf Pack in a game Nov. 28 at Aloha Stadium. Hawaii faces San Jose state at Aloha Stadium today.

For the third week in a row, the Warriors face a team with an unbeaten Mountain West record.

This will be the first game in three weeks for the 4-0 Spartans. Their previous two scheduled opponents – Fresno State and Boise State – have been canceled due to COVID-related situations.

This game has also been hit by the pandemic. It was initially going to be played in San Jose, but was forced to relocate when Santa Clara County imposed restrictions on activities and inbound travel. After today’s game, the Spartans will travel to Las Vegas, where they will settle down until next week’s game against Nevada.

Things to watch:

>> SJSU QB Nick Starkel is a self-proclaimed gunfighter with accuracy. He is a double transfer who previously played with Texas A&M and Arkansas.

>> When Starkel was injured in the first series against the state of San Diego, Nick Nash came in. Nash excels at the read option. The Aztecs were unprepared, the Spartans were upset.

>> Isaiah Tufaga fell in with Jeremiah Pritchard last week. If Pritchard can’t go today, Tufaga will be counted on to defend the run and follow the QB.
