Prime Minister Boris Johnson will make a live announcement to the nation on Thursday night.
The Prime Minister’s address from Downing Street comes after Health Secretary Matt Hancock unveiled the new tier system for England.
Almost all parts of England will face severe coronavirus curtailments with a ban on indoor mixing of households and hospitality restrictions after December 2.
Only the Isle of Wight, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are placed in the lowest Tier 1 set of restrictions, while people in all other parts of England face more severe restrictions on their freedom.
Large parts of the Midlands, North East and North West are in the most restrictive Tier 3, but London will be in Tier 2.
About 23.3 million people – 41.5% of England’s population – will face the strictest restrictions, while 32 million people – 57.3% of the population – will fall into the second category.
Just over 1% of the population – 714,000 people – will be placed in Tier 1.
Mr. Johnson is expected to outline the new rules for each area tonight.
The press conference is currently taking place around 5:00 PM, but this is subject to change.
