Location of upcoming Hawaii vs. San Jose State game in question due to COVID-19 restrictions in Santa Clara County

The site of the University of Hawaii-San Jose State game next week could be questionable.

The December 5 game is scheduled for the CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, but a recent tightening of restrictions in Santa Clara County due to COVID-19 has raised questions about whether it might need to be moved.

“Have a meeting (Sunday) with the county to discuss clarification and direction on the (Saturday) updated COVID-19 guidelines and protocol,” an SJSU school spokesman told the Star-Advertiser today.

According to the Santa Clara County guideline, people who return after traveling more than 150 miles (150 km) must quarantine for 14 days after returning.

In addition, hotels will only be open for essential travel or quarantine or isolation.

The Spartans returned to San Jose on Saturday after their Boise State game was canceled less than five hours before the scheduled kickoff due to COVID-19 affairs within the Boise State soccer team.

Several MWC games have switched to Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas as a neutral site. Wyoming and New Mexico are expected to play their December 5th game there as well.
