A truck driver who accidentally ran over and killed his five-year-old son said the day after the tragedy that he ‘failed’ as a father.
38-year-old Doug Sproule parked his 100-ton truck yesterday without knowing that his son Harrison was behind the giant vehicle.
Little Harrison was treated by paramedics before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital in New South Wales, Australia, although he was later pronounced dead.
Clearly, Harrison got stuck between his father’s truck and another vehicle.
A day after the horror accident, Sproule said he blamed himself for the death of his ‘naughty and happy’ boy.
Mr. Sproule, who also has three other children, said, “My job is to protect them and I have failed.”
He continued to tell the local media, “Sorry is all I can say. I solve problems every day, but I couldn’t solve them. “
Harrison traveled with his father through Australia from the family home in Picton, southwest Sydney, to Darwin and Western Australia.
Mr. Sproule said that Harrison loved driving the truck and had tried to stay awake at night as they traveled across the country.
The truck driver added that he spoke out in hopes that others would not have to suffer a similar accident.
Mr. Sproule added, “He was very happy, naughty. He was very outdoors and loved his horse, loved his brothers and sister.
“He was extremely well traveled. He loved it. He was wonderful. ‘
Flowers were placed at home after the atrocities.
