Man and woman cartel members arrested 'for ordering murders of 3 doctors'

A 22-year-old woman and a man suspected to be a member of the bloodthirsty Jalisco New Generation Cartel has been arrested for ordering her henchmen to kill three Mexican doctors.

The incident took place in the town of Tilzapotla in the municipality of Puente de Ixtla in the state of Morelos in central Mexico.

An alleged member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) named in reports only as Daniela, is alleged to have ordered the murders of three doctors of the Mexican health services (IMSS).

It is unclear if the doctors were working in a Covid-19 hospital.

Reports say the suspect and one of her henchmen called Oscar Zuriel were arrested near the Atlacholoaya prison where they were watching the local police chiefs.

The General Prosecutor of Morelos Uriel Carmona Gandara told local media: “The three doctors went to the town and they decided to have a drink accompanied by a woman.

“According to the evidence that we have gathered during the investigation, the three victims are thought to have had contact with criminal gangs that operate in the state and they agreed to meet a couple in the homicide scene.

“Daniela, also known as ‘Reinga del Sur’ (Queen of the South) or Maestra Aponte (Master Aponte), who is 22 years old, arrived accompanied by a man and they talked to the victims.

“Then several men including Oscar Zuriel arrived at the place and took the doctors’ lives. They took a Mercedes Benz model 2020 car that belonged to one of the victims.”

The couple were detained in May after drugs were found in their car.

While in detention, the arrest warrant for the killing of the doctors was carried out.

Gandara went on: “The three doctors reportedly came to the area during non-working hours and, in the company of a female person, decided to take some drinks in a house equipped, on the outside, to deposit beer and sell alcoholic beverages.”

The motive of the murder is still unclear.

Zuriel is being investigated for his alleged participation in threatening rival crime cartels.

An investigation is ongoing.

Mexico’s murder rate hit a record high last year with almost 35,000 homicides in 2019, according to official data.

That equals an average of 95 murders a day in the country, mostly linked to drug cartels.
