A man was found huddled in a shed after an older pony was tied up and raped.
Michael Riego, 31, was found in the corner of a shed in Wilmington, Delaware, after police set up CCTV cameras to capture the serial pony pervert.
Detectives were first called in September 2019 after one of the miniature horses struggled to walk in the New Castle County Carousel Park and Equestrian Center.
One incident involved a vulnerable 31-year-old mare who was tied with a piece of string and brutally attacked in the middle of the night.
Riego has also been accused of attacking ponies aged 17 and 20.
A New Castle County police spokesman said, “Detectives from the New Castle County Branch of the Special Investigations Squad of the Police have further improved the facility’s electronic surveillance equipment and started conducting nighttime surveillance.
“After more than a month, their determination to end these crimes finally paid off.
“Earlier on the morning of May 21, at about 12:30 PM, Special Investigations Squad detectives watched the stables and observed a male suspect in the stable of another pony.
Then the suspect was observed entering the stable and strapping the pony’s hind legs. When the detectives entered the stall, they discovered that 31-year-old Michael Riego was hiding in the corner and then he was taken into custody.
Riego was transferred to New Castle County Police Station and charged with two counts of Bestiality crime and two counts of Burglary 3rd crime.
“All ponies have been treated by a vet and have resumed their normal daily activities.”
