A man has been filmed shoving a 92-year-old woman to the ground in a brazen daylight attack.
The footage shows the man in a blue T-shirt and shorts walking down a pavement in Manhattan, New York City, last Friday.
He approaches an elderly woman, looks at her, then shoves her in the face with his left arm.
The pensioner, who has been named as Geraldine, falls to the ground and, on her way down, hits her head on a nearby fire hydrant.
The attacker looks back at the woman but doesn’t stop and walks out of shot.
It is not clear what sparked the attack or what happened before the video took place.
Police have now arrested 31-year-old Rashid Brimmage and charged him with assault in relation to the incident.
The elderly woman, identified as Geraldine, suffered severe injuries and is now recovering in hospital.
She has since said she is now scared to walk through the neighbourhood.
“I’ve felt very safe in the city, and now, forget it,” she said. “I’m afraid to go out.”
Recalling the attack, Geraldine added: “I thought it was a brick or something like that.
“Hit me on the right scalp, on the right side of my head, and of course I fell down on the street.
“There were a couple of young women there. They helped me up. They said, ‘I’m going to call an ambulance’.”
The video was originally shared on the New York Police Department’s Twitter account, where the force said the man was wanted for assault.
Police said the shove caused the woman to “strike her head on a fire hydrant”.
It comes after a cruel thug brutally attacked a 74-year-old pensioner in a separate incident in the UK.
Robert Thompson was assaulted on April 22 and has now released photos of his injuries to aid police in their search for the culprit.
The elderly man was attacked outside his house after the suspect jumped over his garden fence.
