A murder case is ongoing after a man was found walking around with a decomposing human head in a plastic bag.
The heinous case is set in Zimbabwe, where murder suspect Emmanuel Anesu Matsika claimed that a witch doctor told him it would solve his personal problems.
The Harare man is said to have been found with the head in December 2018 after carrying the head with him around the city.
In one incident, he decided to pull his head out of the bag to frighten a taxi driver, pretending to do some shopping.
Bulawayo 24 news channel reports that Matsika has appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa and will appear before the Supreme Court on June 8.
He turned down the opportunity to get legal help by telling the court, “I don’t want a lawyer because I realized that most of the people who served the harshest sentences in Chikurubi prison were represented by state lawyers.
“I’ll be a self-actor.”
According to the news station, in 2018 the court approached Matsika with a medicine man named Boss Maki who was looking for spiritual intervention to solve his personal problems.
The court was told that boss Maki apparently told Matsika that his troubles were the result of evil spirits emerging from the underworld and he had to kill someone to conquer the demons and become the devil himself.
The prosecution claims that Matsika had been told to decapitate a human and keep the head on his person all the time until maggots developed, as this would silence the avenging spirit of the deceased.
He was also instructed not to wipe the weapon used in the murder until the ghost of the deceased had calmed down.
Three weeks later, the court heard that Matsika had randomly selected a victim and committed the terrible murder.
In a bizarre twist, the court heard that Matsika later decided to steal from people who used the severed head to scare them.
On December 22, he got into a taxi with the decomposing head and pretended to pick something up in Belvedere, Harare.
On the way, the court heard, Matsika frightened the taxi driver with his head and grabbed his car before fleeing.
He was then involved in an accident on the corner of Bishop Gaul Avenue and Bulawayo Road, where he was arrested by members of the public who discovered the human head.
He was subsequently arrested for murder.
