Mum, 33, 'abandoned newborn baby on stranger's doorstep after being dumped'

A mother reportedly left her newborn baby with a stranger after her boyfriend broke up.

Melissa Kelley, 33, has been charged after allegedly showing up on Patricia Tillman out of the blue on Sunday night.

Mrs. Tillman, the mother of Clayton Zinck’s new girlfriend, told police that Kelley had told her not to touch the three-month-old baby because he had scabies.

Kelley is also said to have left an empty bottle, two dirty towels, and an opened can of baby food before fleeing to Deltona, Florida.

Fox 35 reports the stunned Mrs. Tillman, then told a switchboard operator, “My daughter is going out with her ex-boyfriend or whatever, and she turned and left her baby.

She just pushed the baby in the door and walked away. I don’t know her name. I have no idea who she is. ‘

The alleged incident is said to have taken place at around 10:39 pm.

Home security footage shows Kelley with her baby in a baby carrier, ringing the bell before walking away.

A police report allegedly states that Zinck’s parents were contacted, but they refused to pick up the baby or wake their son.

Volusia County authorities say Kelley texted her family, “Please don’t let me throw this baby in the trash.”

The suspect is said to have become suicidal after the break with Mr. Zinck and threatened to commit suicide with drugs.

Officers followed the mother’s cell phone and found her hidden in a wooded area in Astor, Lake County, about 30 minutes away.

She was arrested and charged with unlawful desertion and child neglect, with the baby now in the care of the Department of Children and Families.
